This is big. Hungry Jacks over the last few weeks have announced and released their REBEL WHOPPER. They describe the burger as such:
“features a patty made from plants, flame-grilled to give the irresistible smoky, BBQ flavour just like our classic Whopper®. Loaded with crisp fresh lettuce, ripe hand-cut tomatoes, onion, pickles, mayo and tomato sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun”.
Damn, now if this isn’t progress, we don’t know what is. The announcement has obviously been met with mixed reviews from vegans and non-vegans alike. Some criticism is that vegans shouldn’t support a chain that also uses large amounts of meat in other products on the menu. Some compliments are, any new vegan menu item is a step in the right direction, and we tend to agree. We believe that posting up the word ‘plant-based’ or ‘vegan’ in advertising, marketing, and in-store normalises and promotes the movement. A note that to ensure the burger is vegan, you will need to ask for vegan mayo and vegan cheese when ordering.
Now that it has been released, we thought we would see what a few of the critics had to say.
Have you tried it? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the Rebel Whopper too. leave your feedback in the comments below.
