Simple Apple Crumble
Ingredients
Tool
- Medium baking tray, preferably square
- 1 large mixing bowl
- 1 medium mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Spray oil for tray
Filling
- 4 red apples; peeled, cored and cubed to bite size (Gala preferred)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup plain flour
- ½ Tbs lemon juice
- ½ tsp vanilla essence
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Topping
- ½ cup plain flour (can be substituted for gluten-free option)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 170g vegan butter, weigh then melt (Nuttelex preferred)
- ½ tsp vanilla essence
- ½ tsp cinnamon
Directions
- Lightly spray the tray and preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius (180 fan-forced).
- Place all filling ingredients in a large mixing bowl and combine with hands, covering the apple pieces evenly.
- Spread filling out onto baking tray evenly.
- Add dry topping ingredients in a medium mixing bowl and mix well with a spoon, then add wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.
- Spread the topping as evenly as possible over the filling and place the tray in the middle rack of the oven for 20-25 minutes, until topping has become a golden brown, or cook until golden-dark brown for extra crunch.
- Cool for 5 minutes and serve with vegan vanilla ice-cream or sweet cream.
