Ikea are about to drop a plant based meatball in Australia

Yes, the classic Ikea meatball is getting a plant-based makeover! Expected to drop on the 6th of October, we are all very excited to try the new meatball from the Swedish homewares giant.

Ikea has stated that the taste and texture will be exactly the same with the only difference being the new plant-based ingredients used (same great taste without the cruelty).

Here’s a little of what Ikea had to say about the concept:

The plant ball is proof that a less meaty future can be just as delicious, whether you’re a meat-lover or not. Made with pea protein, potatoes, onion, oats and apple, it has the taste and juicy bite of the IKEA meatball – minus the meat. Instead, the perfect meaty taste is achieved by adding umami flavours, like mushroom, tomato and roasted vegetables.

“We’re excited to be able to soon start offering a more sustainable option of our original meatball without compromising on the classic IKEA meatball experience,” IKEA spokesperson Bijanka Zubonja said.

Customers can also purchase a take-home pack of frozen plant balls from the Swedish Food Market.

The ingredient list for the new product includes yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion, and apple.

Whilst the product is aimed at Meat-eaters looking to make a better environmental impact, we are thrilled to see the companies food offering moving in the right direction. As one of the largest hot dog providers in the entire world, their menu has a real impact on the way consumers eat.

We can’t wait to see even more plant-based products hitting the menu in the future.
