Vegan leather is changing the game for the fashion world and we couldn’t be happier! The latest brand to roll out an alternative leather is Rollie!

Rollie Nation have teamed up with Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez of Zacatcas, Mexico to deliver a range of shoes designed from Desserto®; a vegan, leather alternative developed from biomaterials of prickly pear.

Using cactus, a plant that requires minimal irrigation by thriving on rainwater and naturally derived earth minerals to stay healthy, Rollie is working with Desserto® to rethink the way they do leather.

About the new range

Striking the perfect balance between durability and flexibility, all pieces in Rollie’s Cactus Leather range of footwear are durable, yet still light, flexible and soft to touch.

The Cactus Leather drop allows both leather lovers and eco-warriors alike to tread lighter on the planet, without compromising on style or comfort. Prickly to Perfect Farmers Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez’s cactus plantation is perennial; the crop lasting around 8 years without needing yearly replanting like other crops Farmers carefully select and cut only mature cactus leaves every 6-8 months, ensuring the cactus stays healthy year-round.

The selected cactus is of a resilient variety, handling low temperatures during winter and making harvesting safer for their team, thanks to its small thorns. They say that by upcycling the byproduct of the plant’s fibre (usually wasted in the process of making tequila), the cactus is then used to create a versatile, comfortable cactus-based biomaterial that is fully customisable, breathable and durable.

Their new range is sustainable, eco-friendly and is designed using cactus biomaterial. The biomaterial is partially biodegradable, cruelty-free and made without toxic chemicals, phthalates or PVC.
