Adelaide, known as the city of churches has long been on the team’s list of must-try destinations for the vegan food scene. After a recent visit, we decided to put together our list of where you need to go and what you need to do in Adelaide.

The first thing we noted about Adelaide which is different from places like Melbourne and Sydney is that many of the vegan cafes and eateries are spread out in various locations in and around the city area.

In other cities, you will usually find a handful of vegan places in the same area (think Newtown in Sydney or Fitzroy in Melbourne). In Adelaide, they are scattered around meaning you will need a car or transport if you wish to see them all! But with transport, you will never be more than about 20 minutes from one venue to another, making it a fairly easy city to navigate.

Morning

Nagev

This family-run cafe located in Evandale is a perfect first stop for the day! We tried the milkshake, burger, and pancakes and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We have no doubt the rest of the menu will follow suit, and with so many of our community recommending the place, you will be in good hands at Nagev.

Brunch

Cherry Darlings Bakehouse

If you are craving something sweet by mid-morning after perhaps visiting one of the beachside areas or the inner city parks then this is your place. Whilst the team has indicated they are looking for someone to take over the business, as of October you can still walk in and get a fantastic selection of sweets, pies, and coffee. Be sure to check opening hours, but definitely worth a visit.

Lunch

Plant4Bowden

https://www.plant4bowden.com.au/

With a selection of vendors and stalls, Plant4Bowden is less of a vegan suggestion and more of a nice-to-visit. You will however be able to find plenty of vegan options and coffee here! So be sure to go and check it out, we were able to find a vegan-friendly Vietnamese coffee which was delicious.

Bakery On Oconnell

https://www.bakeryonoconnell.com.au/

These guys are an amazing bakery that really caters to vegans. With vegan options in most categories, we loved the ‘Sunday Roast pie, the classic pink donuts and even took the chance to grab a HUGE apple lattice pie that lasted the rest of the week!

Dinner

Go Pals

Go Pals in Port Adelaide is a casual and reasonably priced vegan meal. Casual dining with a warm and authentic feel.

Veggo Sizzle

Visited for dinner and had the eggplant parma, this place is another great casual diner suited to dinner service.

Sky Omni

Sky Omni is a Vietnamese-run restaurant that serves a whole heap of animal meat alternatives such as chicken, duck & beef. The service and food are fantastic and it’s around the corner from the Pirate Life Brewery, which is a must-visit!

What we missed

Here are some of your recommendations that we missed but have heard good things about:

Gator Club, Veggie Vie, Metta Sol, Joy of Flora, Dear Daisy Cafe, Stazi & Co, Sarah’s Sisters Cafe

Final Thoughts

Adelaide has plenty to offer all vegans regardless of whether you are looking for sweet, savoury, or anything in between.

If you visit, be sure to let us know what you checkout and any recommendations for the community 🙂
