McPlant has launched in Victoria Australia

McPlant has launched in Victoria Australia

It’s something that people have been waiting for for a long time, a plant-based option to hit McDonald’s. Well, we are here to say that some of those hopes have come to fruition this week with the announcement and launch of the McPlant burger to a selection of Victorian Mcdonald’s outlets in Australia.

Whilst the burger is certainly great news and a step in the right direction for the fast-food giant here in Australia, it is important for us to acknowledge that the burger isn’t technically vegan as it is cooked on the same grill used for animal-based products.

To find out more about the burger, take a look at what Mcdonald’s had to say on their Australian website below.

Where is the McPlant available?

At 270 restaurant locations across VIC.

When was is made available?

From the 29th June.

Will this become available across Australia?

Through this trial, McDonald’s Australia will learn more about customer demand for the McPlant and how this new menu item impacts restaurant kitchen operations, which will inform future menu decisions locally.

Does the McPlant use Beyond Meat?

Yes, Beyond Meat co-developed the McPlant patty with McDonald’s and will supply the patty for our McPlant trial in Victoria.

Does the McPlant Patty contain gluten or soy?

The McPlant Patty does not contain soy or gluten, however, the bun it is served on does contain gluten.

Is the McPlant vegetarian or vegan?

The McPlant patty is made with plant-based protein, but the burger also contains ingredients that are not plant-based, such as American cheese and mayonnaise-style sauce. As always, guests can customize and request to hold the cheese and mayo, or any ingredients; however, the patty will be cooked on the same grill as meat-based products and eggs.

Is the patty halal certified?

Yes, the McPlant patty is halal certified out of our approved manufacturing facility. The McPlant Burger is only available as a Halal menu option in the restaurants that have Halal certification as Bacon is not cooked on the same platen as McPlant and prepared according to Halal requirements.

Can I offer the McPlant patty on a different build, like the Quarter Pounder or Big Mac?

No. We developed McPlant to be its own product platform with its own equity.
