Mister Nice Guys Bake Shop lands in South Melbourne
The south side has finally scored another vegan option, and southsiders couldn’t be happier!
Mister Nice Guy’s, Melbourne’s iconic vegan bakery and one of the city’s longest-running plant-based businesses, has officially opened its new South Melbourne location, just behind South Melbourne Market.
We joined the crowd for opening day and were welcomed by friendly staff, a free coffee and an impressive display of vegan baked goods. From doughnuts and babka to sausage rolls and shepherd’s pie, there was no shortage of mouthwatering baked options.
For many south-side vegans, the opening couldn’t come at a better time. Following a number of vegan café closures in recent years, it’s refreshing to see a dedicated plant-based bakery open its doors in the area. Better still, locals no longer need to cross the river to get their hands on some of Melbourne’s most popular vegan treats.

Founded in 2010, Mister Nice Guy’s has spent more than 15 years building a loyal following and has become a favourite destination for vegans and non-vegans alike.
Alongside its famous sweet treats, the bakery also offers a range of savoury options, celebration cakes, and gluten-friendly choices, making it an easy stop for groups with different dietary requirements.
Opening day had a real buzz about it. The coffee was great, the staff were genuinely welcoming, and there was a steady stream of customers excited to see the bakery arrive on the south side.

At a time when many hospitality businesses are facing rising costs and increasing challenges, it’s encouraging to see a vegan business expanding rather than contracting.
South Melbourne has gained more than just a bakery, it’s gained another dedicated plant-based destination that helps make vegan eating more accessible for locals.
If opening day is anything to go by, Mister Nice Guy’s looks set to become a favourite for South Melbourne residents, market visitors and anyone chasing a quality vegan pastry, doughnut or coffee.
