Review of Shop 225 in Melbourne

Review of Shop 225 in Melbourne

Located in an unassuming local shopping strip on Melville Road South Pascoe Vale, this is your quintessential local pizza place.

Bustling with families sitting in and those grabbing a pizza to take away, this really felt like the local spot. However, unlike your usual local pizza place, this one is officially celiac Australia approved and filled with vegan & GF options for almost every dish. (In 2018 it became the first accredited Gluten-Free pizza shop in Australia certified by Coeliac Australia.)

As hungry vegans who arrived to eat, the menu was almost too good, with tons of options and all with plant-based meat alternatives to traditional dishes. rather than simply ‘taking out the meat’ as so many often do this place had plant-based meat alternatives that were fantastic! It was obvious that this place actually thinks through and genuinely cares about its menu and its patrons. It is the most vegan a non-vegan restaurant we have seen in a long time and we were thoroughly impressed.

The Meal

We started with drinks and then ordered mains in the form of the parma pizza and the spaghetti carbonara.

Both were fantastic.

The Vegan carbonara was incredibly cheesy with a generous serve of vegan bacon bits throughout. It was thick, creamy and cheesy just the way you want it 🙂

We then tucked into the Parma Pizza which was equally as delicious, the base was so doughy and the pizza was delicious. The vegan cheese melts in your mouth and perfect size to share. It came with vegan ham and vegan parmesan.

As we ate there was a steady flow of customers the entire time. For a Tuesday night in the peak of winter, it was a pretty clear indication the food is great and that their following is loyal and repeat.

The place is a cosy, warm and intimate setting that feels incredibly comfortable.

Once our mains were finished without a crumb left to spare, it was time for dessert (the real reason our team visits anywhere, really). We opted for Tiramisu and Nutella Pizzà and we were not disappointed.

The soft and doughy pizza base was coated in warm oozy Nutella topping and strawberries. The tiramisu was equally as tasty. A must-try for when you visit.

Once we demolished dessert, we were completely full with not even room for a coffee or tea, which based on our food experience we have no doubt would have been as high quality as everything else we experienced.

Our final word is that this place is a must-visit, especially for the gluten intolerant as the menu is so extensive that you will be completely spoilt for choice.

When next in the area, we will certainly be back!

Thank you to the team for having us 🙂
