Vegan Vigilantes on SBS The Feed

This week a short documentary was released on SBS’s The Feed on the rise and role of animal activism. The piece follows the story of activist Sophie and her desire to bring light to the plight of farm animals.

The piece is a well-balanced look at the situation and gives a voice to a caged egg and lamb farmer as well as the vegan perspective.

Our takeaways were seeing just how hard it is for animal activists to do what they do in the face of public abuse & scrutiny.

It’s also interesting to see the difficulty of coming up against a system not in their favour in terms of putting animal welfare first.

For anyone who eats animals and even those who don’t. it’s a nice quick and worthwile watch.

The Documentary

Description of the shot Documentary

A small, secretive group has made it their mission to ‘liberate’ animals – by any means necessary. These animal rights activists are ready to break the law for their cause, from taking chickens from farmers to storming abattoirs. But farmers say they’re being unfairly targeted and now feel unsafe in their own backyards. The Feed investigates Australia’s vegan underground to find out: how far are they prepared to go? We speak to an animal rights activist who’s willing to risk it all, and farmers whose lives have been impacted.

Final Thoughts

Animal activists do incredible work to highlight the horrific conditions that so many farmed animals live under. Whilst not everyone may agree with their methods, without this kind of exposure, action is rarely taken to improve conditions and laws.
