A meat pie, is there anything more Australian than this? Well for the meat-eaters there are a lot of pies out there on the market, but what about the vegan and vegetarians? Well, you are in luck, in 2020 there are some incredible pies on the market that are in line with not only your tastebuds but also your morals.
We thought we would look at five of the best vegetarian/vegan pies on the market so that you can have your pie and eat it too
Four N Twenty
Four N Twenty is an Australian brand that is well known by most, and loved by most too. In 2020 Four N Twenty have released there ‘meat-free’ pie. What is great news about this new entrant, is that is actually VEGAN! Four N Twenty cant technical label it as such given the factory it is produced in, but when you review the ingredients it is in fact vegan. Not only is it vegan, but it’s also bloody delicious too!

Animal Rights activist, entrepreneur and former wife of Paul, Linda McCartney Foods’ do an amazing vegan-friendly pie. Available at most leading supermarkets, these pies will give traditional pies a run for there money!

Don’t let their many roadside locations fool you, the PieFace (vegan) pies are the real deal. For those who are fond of a convenient location and a nice vegan pie, this is your pie!
The historic South Australian bakery now has a range of vegan and vegetarian pies for us all to try. Listed below are the veg range on offer in 2020.
- Roast Vegetable Pasty (160g): packed with red and green capsicum, eggplant, zucchini, onion, potato and sweet potato. Our rustic pasty is garnished with basil and oregano and mixed in a thick tomato stew;
- Mushroom, Kale and Leek Pie (200g): loaded with earthy mushroom, kale and leek, complemented by potato and onion in a thick mushroom gravy, seasoned with sage and pepper;
- Curried Lentil & Potato Pie (200g): A robust and peppery lentil stewed in garam masala with potato, tomato, onion, carrot and seasoned with garlic, ginger and pepper;
- Potato, Leek & Rosemary Roll (150g): a warm and fragrant savoury roll loaded with potato, sweet potato, leek and seasoned with rosemary, caraway seeds and pepper.
Unfortunately for those outside of the Bondi, Sydney area, these incredible pies will not be available to you, however, if you are ever in the area then this is a must! The shop itself is quite understated but the range of pies is certainly not! A must for the pie lovers.
So there you have it, five must-try vegan pies for every Australian.
