North Face release alternative to duck down feathers

North Face release alternative to duck down feathers.

Popular mountain wear company The North Face have just released a new and innovative jacket that is utilizing synthetic materials to create insulation instead of using the traditional ‘down’ feathers of an animal.

As you may know, down feathers are plucked from live animals and are part of an extremely cruel industry. Used in a whole host of products from clothing to pillows and doonas, the material creates a warm and soft feel which is why it is so popular. Seeing companies trial and produce alternatives to this terrible material is fantastic and we hope to continue to see more in the future.

What exactly is the material?

The North Face™ developed a partnership with PrimaLoft® to offer a new synthetic alternative to down. ThermoBall™ is a revolution in insulation technology. Unlike traditional, continuous-filament synthetic insulations, the small round PrimaLoft® synthetic fiber clusters closely to mimic down clusters; trapping heat within small air pockets to retain warmth.
