Stay Vegan Motivated

Here at Let’s Go Vegan, we understand the challenge of going vegan better than most. We know that for many, veganism is a huge commitment and it’s natural to feel skeptical or at times unmotivated about staying vegan in a non-vegan world.

Whether you’ve been vegan for 5 days or 5 years, it’s important not to lose sight of why you made the decision to go vegan in the first place.

Here are some quick and effective ways to regain vegan motivation when it starts to dwindle.

Vegan Documentaries

Watching a vegan documentary can help to remind you of why you became vegan in the first place, as well as provide tips on how to stay vegan in the long term. For many a ‘doco’ can be the tipping point to going vegan, so revisiting or watching new ones as a great refresher for new and old vegan alike.

Look at food blogs and vegan cookbooks

Recipe blogs, cookbooks, and food blogs can help you refresh your cooking ideas and help you reconnect with the joy of being vegan. Looking for new recipes and exciting vegan products to try can help rekindle your passion for being vegan.

Research vegan health benefits

Learning the latest vegan health news and research can be a great way to remember the health benefits of the vegan lifestyle. Reading books, articles and blog posts about vegan nutrition can also be incredibly helpful. Take a look at our Nutrition Articles Here if you’d like somewhere to start.

Join an animal rights organisation

Animal advocacy and animal rights organisations offer support to vegans and are great sources of vegan motivation. Volunteering or joining a protest or march can also provide motivation by making a tangible difference in the lives of animals.

Give yourself regular rewards

Veganism is a true commitment and it can be a challange for some to stay motivated in the long-term. Celebrate yourself for continuing on your vegan journey with rewards like your favourite vegan treats, trips to your favourite vegan restaurants, or even a day at the spa. It’s totally ok to give yourself these rewards (in moderation of course)!

Watch a speech

Watch an animal rights activist’s speech or interview. This is a great way to learn how to answer vegan questions and facts so be sure to take a look at how they argue for veganism.

See a vegan nutritionist

If you are worried that your health has declined, please go and see a plant-based nutritionist. You always want to make sure you are eating a balanced and nutrient dense diet and this can help to alleviate any concerns around your diet. Have you had a look at The Proof website or Michael Gregor’s work?

Connect to the community

Connect with other vegans. One of the best ways to restore motivation is to get together with other like-minded people. Connecting with other vegans for moral support, advice, and ideas makes the process of being vegan a lot easier. Attend a vegan meetup, or, if that isn’t an option in your area, connect with vegan friends online. This simple step can go a long way.

Final Thoughts

Staying motivated as a vegan can be a challenge, especially in a world that is almost entirely focused on animal products. But with a little effort, you can stick to your vegan lifestyle and be successful.

First and foremost, focus on the reasons why you originally chose to go vegan. Remind yourself of the positive changes this will bring, both to your health, the animals and the environment. This will give your motivation a boost and remind you of the why behind the what.

Additionally, keep your meals diverse and exciting. Experiment with new recipes and explore different plant-based ingredients such as jackfruit, oyster mushrooms, and banana blossom.

If going fully vegan seems overwhelming, try taking baby steps. Start by switching out your favourite animal products for vegan alternatives, and try adding more vegan meals to your diet week by week.

One final tip: don’t give up if you struggle. One slip-up doesn’t mean the end. Instead, learn from it and use it to continue moving forward. Changing your dietary choices and mindset can be difficult, but remember that any progress you make is still progress.
