v2food will brings plant-based meat to your door with their Marley Spoon partnership

Aussie foodies can, for the first time, order v2food’s plant-based meat straight to their homes thanks to Marley Spoon, a leading meal-kit delivery service.

From today, Marley Spoon customers will be able to order new plant-based dishes every week, offering them an exclusive chance to experience how plant-based v2mince cooks and tastes just like meat. The partnership marks the first time that v2food products will be available to Aussies to cook for themselves, at home.

v2food was founded to help create a version 2 of our global food system that is sustainable, and eating v2 plant-based meat is a small change that can have a big impact. The world’s population will reach 10 billion by 2050 and our planet cannot sustain the doubling of demand for meat that will accompany this growth. Recent events of drought, bushfires and now COVID-19 underline the importance of a sustainable global food system and increasingly we are seeing that people are looking to make a change to the food that they buy and eat.

According to Food Frontier, 32 per cent of Aussies are looking for ways to make more sustainably conscious food choices and reduce their meat consumption. v2food is delicious, nutritious and is designed to cook and taste exactly like meat for everyday favourites like Spag Bol, Chilli or Shepherd’s Pie. Now, through Marley Spoon, the classics and other adventurous variations can be delivered straight to your door, making it more convenient than ever.

Marley Spoon’s menu will change weekly, so customers will be able to pick a new dish every week that features v2food’s plant-based v2mince.

Recipes available over the first weeks of deliveries are all customer favourites from Marley Spoon’s menu that traditionally use beef or pork mince. These meals are now available with v2mince and are bound to become a new favourite at first taste. Customers can try v2mince for the first time when deliveries start on April 27, 2020

The first recipes on the menu include:

  • Shaanxi-Style v2 Plant-Based Mince with Chilli, Ginger and Coriander: Robust flavours with punchy aromatics, resulting in spicy-sour flavours.
  • v2 Plant-Based Chilli Ramen with Leek and Corn: This dish delivers all of the qualities of a memorable ramen soup, with leek and corn for a distinctive twist.
  • v2 Plant-Based Summer Ragu with Tomatoes, Peas and Parsley: An Italian classic, it’s just the sort of homely dish that will leave kids and adults alike, licking their plates.

Launched in October 2019, v2food was brought together by CSIRO’s Main Sequence Ventures and one of Australia’s food industry leaders, Jack Cowin. v2food uses legumes and flavour science developed with CSIRO to create a plant-based mince that looks, cooks and tastes like meat.

“Increasing animal meat production to feed a planet growing towards a population of 10 billion people isn’t sustainable. Thankfully, more and more Aussies are looking for ways to reduce their meat consumption but are often reliant on the same recipes they cook week-in-week-out. Many of us are looking for ways to increase the variety of things we eat at home while staying healthy. v2food and Marley Spoon are enabling Aussies to experience something new and tasty for the first time,” said Nick Hazell, CEO, v2food.

“Marley Spoon allows Australians to easily discover and prepare healthy meals at home without the stress of meal planning or shopping for everything from the supermarket. More and more customers are seeking out vegan and vegetarian options every week. We’re excited to partner with v2food, offering Australians a unique chance to try v2food’s plant-based v2mince in our delicious meals that you can easily prepare and taste at home. Marley Spoon has a tradition of partnering with innovative Australian companies since our foundation. Once again, we’re proud to support the introduction of  Australian food innovation to the broader market that is helping create a more sustainable supply chain without compromising flavour or nutrition to our customers,” said Rolf Weber, co-founder, Marley Spoon Australia.
