Vegan Festival Adelaide, SA’s largest celebration of all things vegan, has received SA Health approval to return to the capital over the last weekend of October 2020!
Now, how good is that to hear in a year when Melbourne’s World Vegan Day has had to be canceled as well as a string of events, markets and talks around the country.
Here’s what the organisers had to say:
“We’re incredibly excited to host one of the first big festivals to happen in Adelaide since COVID-19 restrictions but saddened by the devastating impact the pandemic is having on our world. Our commitment to the vegan movement and animal rights has never been more important than it is now. Animal exploitation is cruel to animals and, as we’re learning this year, can lead to destructive pandemics like COVID-19. Our duty of care for public health & safety is being taken seriously and we will follow our approved COVID Management Plan throughout the Festival weekend. Part of being COVID-Safe means embracing a blend of in person, and live streamed speakers to ensure we follow national restrictions on travel but benefit from the wonders of technology to keep our chosen festival programme.”
The Festival will feature world-renowned speakers, cooking demonstrations, kids’ activities, live local musicians, and creative hands-on workshops. You will be able to explore over 60 market stalls providing visitors with an incredible array of 100% vegan products, including food, drinks, household cleaning, and apparel – demonstrating just how easy it can be to be vegan in every area of life.
For the organisers, being COVID-Safe this year has meant choosing dancing over alcohol, but not to fear, they’ve adapted the festival favourite vegan bar into a fun faux-bar, we’ll have all the favourites in non-alcoholic versions, including G&T, beer, mocktails and wine. Vegans have a way of pivoting any product, so why not drinks!
With vegan lifestyles increasing like never before, Festival directors want to show you how incredible, and mainstream, the world’s fastest growing social movement really is. We bring you 2 days under the gorgeous trees of our temporary new location in Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka to accommodate the ever-increasing numbers, vegans, and ‘v-curious’. All are welcome to enjoy the full Festival atmosphere, chill with friends, and enjoy all things cruelty-free.
The annual event aims to share the reality of the positive impact a vegan lifestyle has on animals, our fellow humans, and our planet. The Festival will show just how amazing, delicious, inclusive, and easy this ever-growing way of life really is.
Australia is one of the fastest-growing vegan markets in the world indicating that society is moving towards sustainable compassionate plant-based living. This year the festival falls on World Vegan Day which is an annual globally recognised event on the 1 November.
To encourage this growth we will be launching SA’s first ever Vegan Film Festival 28 & 29 May 2021 at Palace Nova Cinema in Adelaide. Veganfilmfestival.net
Charismatic chef and outspoken animal defender Zacchary Bird will be lived streamed in from Melbourne to provide an array of “I can’t believe that’s vegan” dishes with his comedic charm. Australia’s TV glamour girl of the 70s and 80s Lynda Stoner, currently CEO of Animal Liberation NSW, will be joining fellow Animal Rights Activist and Politician Andy Meddick AJP as headline speakers over the weekend to share their wisdom and experience of defending animals over the decades. Frontline animal rights activists Haans Siver, and Kristy Alger, will have crowds inspired to step up and do more for the innocent.
Interactive panel discussions over the weekend range from sports, to being a healthy vegan at all ages. Aussie champion sprinter Morgan Mitchell, featured in the globally popular movie The Gamechangers, will be joining us alongside other Aussie game changers to share their plant-based power stories, dispelling the myths about vegan physical limitation. A gorgeous Fashion Parade, will display the ethical & sustainable clothing choices available in Adelaide. The party atmosphere will be provided by some of the best local musicians SA has to offer including Abraska, Great Moose with Cal Williams Jr and PlanetSelf plus a special Halloween film screening from the main stage and a Monster Mash Halloween Kids Disco in the KidZone on Saturday.
In 2019, approximately 16,000 people enjoyed the celebration and education at the Vegan Festival Adelaide, and although we might not be able to have those numbers this year due to COVID restrictions we are still excited to be one of the first big event back in SA. At a time when we need to think of our health and planet like never before, the Festival’s never been needed more, and we’ll have COVID-Safe measures in place to keep everyone safe. We’re encouraging people to pre purchase their tickets via our FB event page: 2020 Vegan Festival Adelaide & our website veganfestival.info.
Attracting worldwide attention and internationally recognised guests, Vegan Festival Adelaide 2020 is a spring event for the whole family (including pets), an exposé into veganism for all, a highlight in ethical, sustainable community-events, and a festival atmosphere at the heart of the Festival State.
